March 2018 (Prime Numbers)

A new ODROID is on the way! This month, we preview benchmarks for the upcoming ODROID-N1 vs the trusty ODROID-XU4. Adrian also helps us automate complex parts of our lives with home automation, Ernst give us a fascinating look into discovering prime numbers with the ODROID-C2, we play some classic Saturn games with Tobias on part 2 of his gaming series, the ODROID-C2 is set up as a Chromium-based web kiosk, and @hominoid offers a guide for compiling clinfo for the ODROID-XU4, which will come in handy as we learn how to do dual GPU mining.

For more accurate time, we set up an ODROID-C2 and a GPS with PPS to create a NTP server, then we take a beginner’s look at getting started with Android on the ODROID-C2. @williamg42 shows off control computer using his ODROID-XU4, and our Meet An ODROIDian this month features Hardkernel engineer Go Sang “Luke” Chul.

April 2018 (Portable Sound Studio)

This month’s issue of ODROID magazine is no April fool’s day joke and it’s full fantastic articles. We have a well needed updated guide to using the ODROID-C2’s USB on-the-go functionality with Linux kernel version 4.15 HID gadget devices.  Next Dylan shows us how to connect security cameras up to our HC2 with a slick looking webui. Stephen demonstrates his amazing portable sound studio based on the XU4. Then we return to the 3rd part of the Saturn gaming on the XU4, which comes just in time for a build of a Arcade Box created by Brian Kim, Charles Park, and John Lee.  We have a look at Nextcloud Server running on the ODROID-HC2, which pairs well with an article on encrypting our NAS data on the HC2 as well. This month’s issue is pack with great articles! We have several terrific articles to help with hard drive management and data backup, which will be perfect when building your new NAS. Once we get our hard drives sorted our Neal Kim, UPS tutorial will ensure our HC2 keeps going even with a power outage. Gary Morgan shows off his custom-made media center ODROID-C2 case complete with its own LED lighting. We get to take our ODROIDs out on the road with Chris Kim, with his tutorial on Android Auto. Additionally, we return out to the wild west with @hominoid for more on crypto-currency mining with the XU4. Hardkernel shows off a new USB3.0 eMMC Module reader/writer to help speed up flashing eMMC Modules. Lastly, we have a meet a fellow ODROIDian, Matthew Kinderwater. If you are a fan of retro gaming, this month’s magazine is perfect for you! If not, there are still tons of great articles that you’ll be sure to love. We have a two part series on Nintendo 64 emulation as well an in-depth review of many great Saturn games brought to us by Tobias. Along with those articles we have a spotlight on ODROID GameStation Turbo OS, an all-in-one emulation and retro gaming-centric OS. These articles are just in time for the release of the OGST Gaming console kit, which is also highlighted in this magazine too! With all this gaming we’re sure have friends join in on the fun, which is perfect as we also showcase the new ODROID GameSir G3w USB controller. If we want to take break from all this gaming, we have some fantastic tutorials and builds featured this month. @tung256 shows us how to make a cheap 4k digital photo frame, Steve Jackson shows off his carputer, Roberto Rosario goes green with his solar powered microserver, and @stadicus describes how to set up a XU4 as a Bitcoin lightning node.

This month we celebrate Hardkernel’s 10-year anniversary with the release of the ODROID-GO, which is an amazing mobile development platform as well as retro-gaming system! We have a look at getting more acceleration from our XU4 with GPU accelerated Qt5 and OpenCL. We also look at getting a Tor relay, Recalbox, and Player Unknown’s Battleground (PUBG) running on our XU4 as well. Luckily we have a 2 part guide this month on liquid cooling to keep all these awesome projects running smoothly at peak performance. DongHyun Yoo shows us how to do object tracking with the XU4, and Erik Koennecke shows us some helpful insight into using BASH. Additionally, we have an informative look at Linux Gaming with an article from Tobias, and a great DIY Smart Light Project using Home Assistant from Adrian Popa. Be sure you have a look at this!

For August, we have a look at using KeePass on our ODROIDs and we’ll also see how to setup our own private and secure ODROID KeePass server.  If you’re celebrating Hardkernel’s 10-year anniversary with an ODROID-GO, then the two Coding Camp articles are perfect to get you coding on the ODROID-GO in no time!  Additionally, we have the next part of our Linux gaming series, where Tobias shows off some amazing Saturn games to play on the ODROID-XU4.  To keep the gaming going, @qkpham tells us how to setup a Minecraft Server, and Sebastien introduces the FNA game platform.  Marian uses GStreamer on his ODROID-XU4 to do object detection, which is an article you don’t want to miss!

January 2019 (5 Year Anniversary)

We are excited to announce that it’s our 5th anniversary of the ODROID magazine! Justin Lee, CEO of Hardkernel, gives us the history of the company in our “Meet An ODROIDian” section. Additionally, Bruno does an amazing job of giving us a retrospective of ODROID magazine in his article. If you are nostalgic for Dreamcast games, @AreaScout teaches us how to build Reicast, a Dreamcast emulator, for our ODROID. The kernel for the XU4 gets some interesting changes to allow automatic frame rate control which every Kodi fan should read. Michael Larabel of phoronix.com, gives us his review of the ODROID-XU4. For our ODROID-C2 we have a look @Epeios’s Atlas Toolkit, a python toolkit for remote control of GPIO.

This month we are excited to announce the ODROID-N2, a new high performance single board computer that can run Android Pie. We learn about crossgrading from armhf to arm64, just in time to help us transition to our new ODROID-N2. Dave Prochnow shows a great use for our ODROID-GO by using them for scientific research with 4U Bayou. We have part 3 of Tobias’s TurboGrafx series and part 5 NEMS Linux by Robbie Ferguson. For our ODROID-N2, we look at multi-booting and OS selecting from a single disk, as well as using our ODROID-N2 for high performance computing and as a web-server. Brian Ree gives us the second part to creating a Monku Retro gaming console. For any Python enthusiasts we look at implementing GPIO IRQ handlers on many ODROID devices.
